We celebrated Halloween and enjoyed wearing our costumes!!!
We created gingerbread houses after focusing on the letter "G". We listened to the "Gingerbread Baby and the Gingerbread Friends" by Jan Brett.
We focused on the meaning of Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and why we have the day off on Jan 18th. The students listened to a story called "More Than Anything Else". The story is about a boy named "Booker" (Booker T Washington). Booker wanted to learn to read and write although he worked in the salt works during the day to help support his family. A man in the town taught him to write his name in the dirt because he didn't have paper and pencils. The students simulated writing in the dirt by pretending their brown paper was dirt and they finger painted their names then painted diluted glue around their names and sprinkled sand all over their work to create their names written in dirt. The students learned that Martin Luther King, Jr. worked so that all boys and girls could have the opportunity to go to school
